Something Dandy
22×38 in, Oil Pastels & Acrylic, 12/03/25
Black dandyism is a cultural movement of wild color combinations, overwhelming patterns, and pure eccentricity. Therefore, no one medium could do justice to the representation of this movement. Paint and oil pastels mix in the form of pulsing strokes, following the jig and jive of the center dandy figure. The cardboard canvas highlights the resourceful creativity of the pioneers of this movement. From the 1700s to the 1980s to the dandies of today, black dandyism is alive and well in the celebrities you see on TV to your funny-dressing cousin at the cookout. Throughout our everyday lives, we have all encountered something dandy.
