in green
could you find me
if i hid myself
in the summer leaves?
would you remember me
if the noon-day sun
shown through me,
so translucently,
or if the glow of dusk sunk
softly, unto my earthen hue?
if i rested in forests,
woven betwixt crawling vines,
sequestered among flowers,
and shouldering the weight
of glimmering morning dew,
would you know
you’d lain beside me there?
whilst i was mingling,
so delightfully,
with my sisters violet,
yellow, and blue,
could you see the picture we sang?
how red and i harmonized
in the roses to your wayside,
or how we swayed,
me and orange,
waltzing in those marigolds;
could you keep the tempo?
when you hear my voice,
can you feel my Spirit?
does it sound like my Ma,
the lush mellow in her melody
humming so restlessly
through the lull of our bayou?
listen
to those ever longing sighs,
gusts gently nudging
cascades of cool spring rain.
to the chorus of crickets
and frogs, and the buzz
of dancing lightning bugs.
hear her gentle breath,
rising and rustling,
whispering the way,
and her Spirit winding,
to lead folk someplace safe.
don’t you see me?
dancing along,
to the sound of my name,
when she send wind
to come and play?
would you search for me?
could you distinguish my shade?
would you
parse between oceans
strewn with seaweed,
and ponds
dotted with algae?
would you know
to call for me
if i were moss
blanketing a lake,
giving it the slightest
tinge of me?
could you feel the waters
utter my memory?
set yourself in stone,
in a lover's band.
hold me, hand in hand.
we may be gold and emerald,
if you can find me
shimmering in the green,
where we are all ourselves,
and all ourselves, beautiful.
