Bleeding Heart

They say I’ve got a bleeding heart

“Be careful of your bleeding heart”

My mother would say

A trail of golden blood follows me wherever I go

They say I’ve got a bleeding heart

The blood gets on everything I touch

I sit anxiously

Desperately waiting for signs of healing

Ragged breaths

Convulsions

Screams

Stable

Panic

Uncertainty

Fear

Stable

Time

Distance

Pain

Flatline

They say I’ve got a bleeding heart

But that’s simply not true

If I had such a golden blood, bleeding heart

Why couldn’t I save you
